January
Gray Whale Watching on Catalina Island
Every year between 20,000 and 25,000 Gray Whales migrate from Alaska to Mexico to warmer breeding grounds from late December. The Gray Whales return back to Alaska from January to March which is the peak whale watching season on Catalina Island. More and more whales are moving closer to the coastline of Catalina to escape the fleet of whale watchers off the Californian coast. Watch this event unfold at Catalina Ocean Rafting web.
The Avalon Benefit 50-mile Run Event
This is arguably the most scenic 50 mile run in the country – with no traffic or smog. It is you, nature and incredible views. The 2007 Avalon Benefit 50 Mile Run event calendar is not available yet. Check the Official Web site for future events.
February
The Catalina Buffalo Run
The Catalina Buffalo Run event is a half-marathon that takes you through spectacular views of San Clemente Island and Avalon. It starts at sea level and moves up to an elevation of 1,600 ft before returning back to sea level. This is the official warm-up for the Catalina Marathon. The next Buffalo run calendar spot is for February 10, 2007. Information is available on the Pacific Sports website.
The Catalina Island Valentine’s Dance
There is no better place to celebrate valentine than on Catalina Island - the island of romance and love. Check the Catalina Chamber of Commerce event calendar for information on the Valentine’s Dance event in the Casino Ballroom.
The Annual Avalon Bay Harbor Underwater Cleanup
The only time scuba diving is allowed in Avalon Bay is during the yearly Avalon Bay harbor underwater cleanup day, normally held in February. Expect to find about 500 volunteers collecting debris underwater. An event not to be missed. Info from the Catalina Conservancy Divers (CCD).

The Catalina Marathon
A 26.2 mile Catalina Marathon from Avalon to Two Harbors and back – mostly off road. The 2007 Catalina Marathon is scheduled for Sunday 17 March 2007. This will be the 30th Anniversary of this event. Check the Pacific Sports calendar for latest info.
April
The Catalina Island Conservancy Ball Golf Tournament.
The yearly Conservancy Ball Golf Tournament is played prior to the Catalina Conservancy Ball on the spectacular Catalina Island Golf Course. Visit the Catalina Conservancy Ball web site for event information.
The Catalina Conservancy Ball
This black-tie event is held yearly in the Avalon Casino Ballroom and includes dinner and big band dancing in support of the Catalina Island Conservancy. The Rubber Ducky Derby
Annualy the Rubber Ducky Derby is a fundraising event in support of the local children’s theatre company “Kids at Play”. Check the events schedule on the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce web site for information.

June The Catalina Swing Camp
Jitterbug Swing, Lindy Hop, Smooth Lindy and much more. The Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association and renowned International instructors will get you swinging in the Avon Casino Ballroom. Latest information on the Catalina Annual Swing Camp can be found on their official web.
July
The Catalina 4th July Parade, Fireworks and Dinner at the Avalon Casino Ballroom
Witness a spectacular fireworks display over Avalon Bay. Additional information can be found on the Events Calendar at the Catalina Chamber of Commerce.
The Annual Catalina Gold Star Dive
In this fund-raiser for the Catalina Sheriff Department’s Star Program and the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, skin and scuba divers will search for Gold Stars. Contact the Catalina Sheriff Department at (310) 510-0174 for further information.
August The Catalina Church Mouse Marlin Invitational
This is a non-profit marlin fishing tournament with proceeds donated to the youth of Catalina. Detail can be found on the Events Calendar at the Catalina Chamber of Commerce.
September The Catalina Pottery and Tile Extravaganza
Visit the Catalina Island Museum for a display of colorful locally made Catalina Tiles and Pottery. Attend lectures, demonstrations and a walking tour. Information can be found on the Event Calendar at the Catalina Chamber of Commerce.
The Catalina Classic Marlin Tournament
The Catalina Classic Marlin Tournament takes place at Avalon, Catalina Island. You can find info on the official Catalina Classic Marlin Tournament web.
The Yearly Catalina Tin Cup

The Annual Catalina Wine Festival

October The Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival

The Annual Catalina Shop in Avalon night.

The Annual Open House at the Inn on Mt. Ada
This yearly holiday party is the only public event at the Inn on Mt. Ada. Admission is free. Raffles are sold as a fundraiser for the Catalina Island Museum. Contact the museum on (310) 510-2414 for more info on their event calendar.
The Annual Catalina Island New Year’s Eve Celebration Ball
